Position Title: Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman

Department: Operations/Construction

Reports To: Site Supervisor/Project Manager

Job Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various heavy construction equipment and overseeing construction projects. This role involves managing a team of equipment operators and coordinating activities to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. The Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman should have a strong understanding of construction processes, equipment maintenance, and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Equipment Operation:

    • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steer, and other construction machinery.
    • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
    • Follow project specifications and guidelines for efficient and accurate work.
  2. Supervision and Leadership:

    • Lead and supervise a team of equipment operators and laborers.
    • Delegate tasks and ensure that team members understand their responsibilities.
    • Provide training and guidance to new and existing team members.
  3. Project Coordination:

    • Collaborate with the Project Manager to plan and organize construction activities.
    • Ensure that projects are executed according to plans, specifications, and timelines.
    • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to meet deadlines.
  4. Safety Compliance:

    • Enforce and promote a culture of safety on the construction site.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure that all team members adhere to safety protocols.
    • Investigate and report any accidents or safety incidents promptly.
  5. Equipment Maintenance:

    • Schedule and oversee regular maintenance and repairs of heavy equipment.
    • Keep accurate records of equipment maintenance activities.
    • Identify and report any equipment malfunctions promptly.
  6. Communication:

    • Communicate effectively with team members, project managers, and other stakeholders.
    • Provide regular updates on project status, challenges, and successes.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth project execution.
  7. Quality Control:

    • Ensure that work meets quality standards and complies with project specifications.
    • Conduct inspections to identify and address any defects or issues promptly.
  8. Budget Management:

    • Assist in managing project budgets by monitoring expenses and controlling costs.
    • Provide input on resource allocation and equipment needs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in heavy equipment operation or construction management is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a heavy equipment operator, with a track record of successful project management.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications for record-keeping and communication.
